- 1. Edward Peter De Gex (1812-79; sometimes Dé Gex), solicitor, of Austen and De Gex; resident at 44 Hunter Street, Brunswick Square. Brother of John De Gex (1809-87), barrister: see Pilgrim Letters 2, p. 423n. Edward had dealt with Letitia Austin’s affairs after the death of her husband (Pilgrim Letters 9, p.550 & nn).
- 2. The letter was probably to thank him for sympathy after the Staplehurst railway accident and written at least in part by Georgina: see e.g. To Buckstone, 13 June, and n.4.
