• 1. John Durancé George (1815-51), Dental Surgeon at University College Hospital and Lecturer on dental surgery. Studied medicine at University College London 1835-7; qualified as MRCS in 1838. He became dentist to London society figures, including the Dowager Queen Adelaide. In 1848 George had sought CD's agreement to serve on an unidentified committee; see Pilgrim Letters 5, p. 246. He had also treated one of CD's children, in February 1848; see To George, 18 Feb 1848. George's cousin, Samuel Cartwright Jr (1815-91), became CD's dentist in 1853.
